Personal Narrative: My Life Changing Experience
My life would have been completely different had my parents chosen to go back to China in 2001. At first, my dad came here alone for a job offer, and my mom and I came to visit him a year later. However, our family’s intended short visit soon became a permanent residence. They chose to stay so that I could have a better education and ultimately, a better life. But in order to attain what they initially envisioned when making that life-changing decision, they have had to endure numerous hardships and obstacles. The main obstacle they faced was the language barrier, which made it difficult for them to freely interact with fellow coworkers and the general public. Although they had both taken English courses at their universities in China, their early level of proficiency was not sufficient to completely comprehend conversations with fluent English-speakers. With feelings of isolation and no prior exposure to the American legal systems, my dad …show more content…
And since my parents never showed even the slightest signs of weakness, fatigue, or dejection, I grew up under the warmth of their radiant, loving smiles. However, looking back, I took a lot for granted, mistakenly believing that everything they did for me was merely expected. Similarly, I regret all those stubborn and meaningless arguments I’d have with them over the minute details. At these moments, I did not recognize how grateful and fortunate I actually was to have such devoted, loving parents. I now realize all of the unspoken sacrifices that my parents have made for me so that I can chase after my American dream. I’ve come to understand how much my beloved parents mean to me. In the end, they matter more than anything else in this entire world. Their unconditional love and support is truly valuable and indispensable and is worth so much more to me than the materialistic aspects in

Gazing out of the airplane window, I saw the words Mei Guo— “beautiful country” in Chinese—painted on the airport terminal. My mother and I immigrated to America when I was a small child from Taishan, China. She aimed to remove me from a life where society would limit my options and ostracize me due to my father’s blindness from Retinitis Pigmentosa and the family’s lack of proper education. My father was willing to let go of his only child because he, too, knew it would open infinite opportunities for me to succeed. Though my new life in America seemed prosperous at first, I soon realized I needed to create opportunities for myself despite our lack of resources.…

Most families sacrifice a lot to give their kids the life that they never had. This is especially true for me, after learning about the hardships my parents had to endure for me to enjoy life in America. We come from a small third world country called Burma/Myanmar and during the 1900s, Burma was facing civil unrest and students were facing off against the military. Burma was spiraling down and didn’t seem like it was going to improve and seeing this, my parents strived for a better life for my brother and I. Due to this, my dad went off to sea and I didn’t have much contact with my dad, since he would only come back for a month or so, meanwhile my mom finished school in Burma and took up various jobs.…

The reading made me think about how my parents raised me and my brother. As a last child in my family, I was more advantaged than my older sibling in getting new things. Bu my mom always taught me the value of love, respect, and how hard she worked to gave me a better life thank my brother. By the time I was 18 years old, it was natural for me to accept the fact that I am in charge of my own expenses and no to depend on my parent’s wallet. It is true, that many parents nowadays are trying to make up for their busy schedule with money and expensive gifts for their kids. However, I agree with the writer that they should also think about what their children may be missing out when they easily can get all that they want from their parents. Children have to learn more valuable lesson of how hard they parents work to give them a better life, but they also have to learn to appreciate what their parents do for them.…

All their efforts, labors that were given to me should be reciprocated twice on what they have sacrificed. They are my first mentors, my first hugs and kisses, my first supporters and my first companion in this world. If they have offered all their might and all their best during their youth to me, why then would I not return much more to the knowing that I am capable of doing so?…

This past week is what really showed me how important my parents are to me and why they are so incredibly equal. I was in Christiana hospital from Sunday night until Friday night this last week. Day and night my mother and father were there for me staying with me and comforting me when I needed them so bad. They did not leave me in my room for 30 seconds by myself without one of them being there by my side holding my hand throughout the entire week. If one stayed with me during the day the other was sure to be there with me all night.…

When I was little, I idolized my parents like they were God or even a role model to me. They are the adults that I would see most of the day other then my family friends. My parents were a big factor while I was growing up because they were like a guide in my life; they showed me what’s good from bad, and what’s right from wrong. They were there for me when I needed them the most therefore; they would be the ones that I would idolize the most when I was little. One of the situations during my childhood I idolized my parents in a very special way; they taught me a good lesson about doing the right thing from a bad situation. One day, my friend Antonio asked me for a pencil to borrow for the day, and I said, “Sure Antonio.” He gave the pencil back to me at the end of the day, but the pencil was broken. He told me, “I’m sorry for you pencil, I dropped it by accident and it broke.” I was really mad at him, so during that night I was thinking of a way to make him pay for what he has done, but my mom found out that I was going to try getting revenge on my friend so she told me to do the right thing by telling my friend its okay about the broken pencil and I asked my mom why I should forgive him and she said, “It’s always good to just stop the problem as soon as possible because if you try taking action, the problem will only get bigger and it effects your relationship between your friends.” That’s when I thought about how my parents think ahead of the situation and they knew how to deal with it, which made me think they were perfect. I had a strong relationship with my parents in India, since we traveled to lots of places and we moved houses a lot. The move from India to Canada was a big factor because my parents wanted me to have an educated life so they had higher expectations after we moved which made me look at them differently. After my report card was an average mark,…
