Heroes In The Odyssey

There are many heroes in society that have saved lives or have strongly impacted others in a positive way. Heroes are just normal people, so any can be a hero and people think they aren’t heroes, but in reality they are. Heroes are people who have impacted and made society a better place by doing big acts or just small ones.
Being a hero means being selfless. A little girl saved herself and her grandma because she didn’t just think about herself. “‘She saved her grandmother's life and saved her own life’ Cloe also rescued her dog from the burning house” (Izadi 1). A five year old child was awaken by the sound of a fire alarm. Instead of just thinking about herself and running away, she went and found her blind grandma and led her outside.
In the “Odyssey,” Odysseus saved himself and his men because he didn’t fear anyone or anything. “With this he drove the ram away from him out of doors, and I loosed myself when the ram was a little way from the cave, then untied my men” (Homer 38). If Odyssey feared someone or something he probably would’ve just let himself and his men died. He would’ve just given up and not even try, but Odyssey didn’t do that. Instead, he came up with a brilliant plan of tying him and his men to sheep, so when the Cyclops bring the sheep outside, they would be free. Don’t just assume someone is scared just because of their age. “‘For all of us very easily, child or adult, could freeze in that situation.’” A five year old girl named Cloe could’ve been scared and cry. She could’ve just stood there and yelled for her mom, (who wasn’t home at the time) but instead she used what she had learned from a previous field trip and saved 3 lives. Don’t give up hope because there’s a solution for everything. “He tore them limb from for his supper, eating the flesh and entrails, bone and marrow, like a mountain lion, leaving nothing ” (Homer 34). “I considered the best way of escaping, and saving myself, and my men from death” (Homer 37). He could’ve been scared and just gave up because he couldn’t think anything could possibly be good enough to beat cyclops, but he believed the gods and he save the remaining men. Instead of being selfish and leaving the rest of his men to die and him escaping by himself, he came up with a plan that would get him and the rest of his men out alive. He might’ve gotten them into this, but he got them out of it and that’s all that matters. Don’t listen to people who tell others to give up because someone will always come
