Ponyboy is a heroic fourteen-year old boy who knows what’s right and whats wrong. He saved the kids from the burning church that he might have started with his lit cigarette. As soon as he heard the children, he yells “ ‘I’ll get them don’t worry!’” (pg. 91) and bravely runs into the flaming church. Pony risks his life for some children he has never met which goes to show he is audacious. He cares about strangers and want to keep them safe. “ ‘Picking up the glass’ ” he said, “I didn’t want anyone to get a flat tire.” (pg. 171) because he was so thoughtful. He cared about people driving and would’t want them to crash because of his doing.
Cherry is always brave, no matter what, and she never backs down. She tells Dally “I wouldn’t drink it if I was starving in the desert. Get lost, hood!” (pg. 22) even though he was unsafe. He cares about others no matter what decisions they make, bad or good. In Soda’s letter to Pony it states “Darry is awful sorry he hit you.”(pg. 81) “He hasn’t got the slightest notion where you’re at and it’s nearly killing him.” ,and this bewildered Ponyboy because he thought Darry hated him. He worries about others and hates to see them in troublesome situations. Darry is brave in the face of danger. At the rumble he declares “I’ll take on anyone ” (pg. 142)and only one person is brave enough to stand up to Darry. He stands his ground and isn't afraid of
