In The Tragedy of Hamlet one might find many different heros based on his or her personal standards that they use to define what a hero is.
One could argue that the actors in the play that proved Claudius was in fact a killer are heros because they didn't let a guilty man walk. Hamlet might also be defined as a hero because he avenged his father but he waited until he had facts to do so. However there are those who might say that Hamlet and the Actors are not heros at all, but in fact are the villains in that story because they either directly or indirectly killed someone. Both sides of the argument can be proved true depending on whom is asked and their definition of a
hero.
A universal definition of a hero in real life is just as hard to find as it is in literature, if not harder. This is because unlike a book every detail about a person is not laid out in words. One can not simple skip to a page and read about the details of an event to see if the actions fit the standards they use to define a hero. Personally I find famous musicians to be heroes, through their lyrics they have led me and many others through dark times. Not all people who are lyrically gifted choose to take advantage of what they have but those who do fit my standards of a hero.
Some people may argue with me and claim not all famous musicians are heros. It is true that there are artist who exist who may promote violence and drugs. There are artist who encourage killing people over a neighborhood or because individuals wear the wrong colors. Once again this proves that there is not a single definition of what a hero is. For the kid who lives in the area where killing people because of the color of clothing they wear is a reality, it may be nice to know that he or she is not alone. Famous musicians share their stories for people to relate to and sometimes all people need to get through a tough time is someone who understands their struggle.
In the end it doesn't matter who we decided is a hero. It doesn't matter if we as a society agree on the definition of a hero. What matters is that we all have a hero, and we all have our own standards for a hero. If we chose to follow others standards then we lose sight of how we actually feel about the world and we slowly become morphed into one big group of followers. There are many ideas of what a hero is and that may just be the best thing that's ever happened.
