Hi Olivia Poem Summary
Hi Olivia. I had not thought of this analogy, and to realize they both have the word “wall” to describe their functions. Pretty clever I’d say. Thinking of the walls and the roof of the factory, it made me think of the floor and what it could be in a factory, which I’d say could be related to the cytoplasm in a cell. Because the cell wall in a call may act as the walls for the factory like you said, and the floor is inside all the rooms covered by walls, the floor might as well be the cytoplasm. Don’t you think? Which then brings all the rest of the organelles inside the factory. Great post overall.

Stanford and University of California alumni Sandra Lim reads from The Wilderness on April 7, 2015, at Prairie Lights. As an alumna from the International Writing Program Lim was making her return back to Iowa City after 11 years. In The Wilderness Lim reads a collection of poems about love, spring and one poem that caught my attention was about the individual struggle of one's body within one’s mind. The poems are open to many interpretations but that is the way that I chose to interpret that poetry in particular. The interesting thing about Lim’s poem is how describes the body parts in some of her poems. It is very vague. It almost makes me feel a little bit uncomfortable but at the same time, I really like her style. The way she describes…

Just as poetry is a permanent mark of feelings that last forever on paper, tattoos are permanent symbols that last forever on the skin. Tattoos and poetry can easily be combined such as in Kim Addonizio’s sonnet, “First Poem for You,” the speaker admires her partner’s nature themed tattoos in a darkened room. This may seem to be a simple poem, but by utilizing tattoos as symbols, including tactile and visual imagery in her poem, and using the sonnet as her structure, Addonizio laments about the true meaning of relationships and their longevity.…

    Odyssey Vs Swede

    • 668 Words
    • 3 Pages

In both The Odyssey and The Swede a character makes a decision regarding whether or not to trust someone that reveals a more in-depth reading of the character to the reader. In both stories the main character makes a decision to listen to another individual regarding whether they should do what they’re “supposed to.” Odysseus listens to Circe and does not fight the monster Scylla even though his identity is built off of winning fights. Similarly, Danny listens to Luke about why they bully Per-Erik and has his identity as a union kid thrust upon him. Both the decision to listen and the resulting decisions from their actions change the course of the story.…

    First Poem for You

    • 793 Words

The Shakespearean sonnet “First Poem for You” has an iambic pentameter and consistent rhyme scheme. Every other line represents a true rhyme – the final accented vowels and all succeeding consonants or syllables are identical. For example the words “complete” and “neat” (Addonizio 1, 3). Every line of the poem has a basic stressed and unstressed syllable format, except the last line. The extension of the last line “but touch them, trying” implements a longer stress (14). I believe this has definite meaning to the structure of the poem. In addition, the final verse of the poem is the longest line. In relation to the word “trying”, I believe that the longer stress and length in the final line of the poem emphasizes the woman continuing to mend the relationship with her boyfriend. The theme of the poem is about love and desire, a woman who cares for her boyfriend seeks to mend the brokenness in their relationship.…

    Minerva Jones Poem

In the epitaph "Minerva Jones" by Edgar Lee Masters I learned that she was looked at as a person with a "heavy body, cock-eye, and rolling walk" and that she was the village poetess. The people this poetess speaks about are as she refers to as "Yahoos of the street" these were the people who would hoot and jeer at her as she walked by because of her looks. She also says that someone named Butch Weldy captured her after a brutal hunt and that she "sank into death, growing numb from the feet up" she is now pregnant by Butch. This lets us know how the poet's view on small-town America because not only does that seem bad that in the epitaph the girl is "captured" she is thirsty for love and hungry for life which means she isn't loved nor does she…

14 dead, 21 wounded in San Bernardino. 9 dead in Charleston, S.C. 12 killed, 3 injured in Washington, D.C. 27 killed, one injured at Sandy Hook Elementary. These are just a few examples of tragic mass shootings that have plagued the United States in recent years. But Why? Is it because the gun Laws in this country are too lax? And Guns are just too accessible? I say No, there is greater issue at hand than America’s gun laws thus, any amount gun control legislation will not stop the gun violence and we must vote against it. Too often gun control proposed as thee solution to stop all the tragic mass shootings. I disagree, infringing on the right of Americans to bear arms is not the answer, Keeping guns out of good law abiding people is not going to stop all the violence, I believe that just the opposite is true. Some may object saying, “America has more guns per capita and more gun violence than other nation, so if we decrease the number of arm citizens would also decrease the number of deaths caused by gun violence and make our country safer.” However this objections and others just like it are just not necessarily true.…

The way I chose to remember this was to interpret a cell as a baseball or softball field. I did this by figuring how the parts of a baseball field correspond with the parts of a cell, and this is what I came up with. First, the cell membrane would be the dugout because, when you walk onto the softball diamond you go through the dugout and onto the field. When the game is over you walk out of the dugout off of the field just like how the cell membrane lets things in and out. Then the nucleus would be the umpire because, the umpire is the boss on the field like in a cell. He or she makes all of the call like safe, out, strike, the pitch is too low, the pitch is too high, they left the base too early, the ball is fair, or the ball is out of bounds. Next, the DNA would be the coach because, the DNA instructs. The coach instructs drills to learn and to perform to improve playing skills and to help us advance to be better players. If the cytoplasm was the team it would work out perfectly because, the team keeps in place and they are all in it together. We hold everything in place, how we do things we stay as a team. The mitochondria would be the sun because, it provides energy to people, in this case it would be the team, umpire, and coach. The mitochondria would be the sun because, it provides energy to people, in this case it would be the team, umpire, and coach that the sun is providing its energy to. As all of these parts are a necessity to a softball field, all of the parts of a cell are necessary too. A vacuole needs the cytoplasm to its job inside of the cell. The DNA needs the cell membrane to do its job. All parts of a cell are needed to let the cell do its…

“A Red, Red Rose”, written by Robert Burns, is a romantic lyric poem that describes the affection that the narrator has for his love. In the poem, similes pertaining to his love are used to convey how deeply he feels about it, and to show that he is being sincere in his words. In the last two stanzas, the narrator states that his love will prevail until the end of time, or for as long as he lives. He also states that he’d still return to his love, even if he had to walk ten thousand miles, meaning that he would do anything or go anywhere for her.…

The membrane in a Plant cell separates the cell from the environment and regulates the molecule passage in and out of the cell. The bouncer is considered the membrane of the party. The bouncers have a list and, only allow certain people into the party, separating who is inside the party from who is not. The person who throws the party is considered the nucleus of the party. This person controls what happens at the party, like what songs will be played and what people will eat. This is comparable to the nucleus of a cell because the nucleus contains the DNA and RNA and controls synthesis of essential chemicals. The endoplasmic reticulum is a network of tubes inside the cytoplasm, the tubes transport materials. The hallways inside the house provide a way for people to get from one place in the house to another. Mitochondria are the site where energy is converted and respiration occurs. In the party room music is played and people dance when it is played. Music is converted to dancing just as energy is converted to useable energy. Ribosomes are the site of protein synthesis, where proteins are manufactured. The kitchen is considered the ribosome's because it is the site where food is manufactured. The Golgi complex is where something is made and released. At the party, party favors were made and given out in a room in the mansion. Lysosomes digest worn out cell components and fuse with food-containing-vacuoles. This is comparable to a party because after the party the butler disposes of the old cans, cups, napkins, crumbs, dirt or any other garbage. During the party the guests coat, purses and anything else they wanted to store, was stored in the closet. This is comparable to the vacuoles in a plant cell because they store substances like food water and…
