Hiding Suffering with Fake Joy Janet Bode, author of the book Voices of Rape, interviewed a young man that was once a victim of abuse. He said his parents fed and clothed him, but they did not provide him with the love a child needs to thrive (84). He claimed that the only time emotion was shown was when his father showed hate and rage, he loved to show them it was the only thing he ever loved. He stated that it taught him that beating young children is right and it is the only way to obtain any accomplishment. The world is an average sized planet sometimes considered small, and with the numerous cases of abuse and assault that occurs some or most cases could be happening in every state and city of the world. Abuse comes in various formalities including but not limited to physical, mental, sexual, neglect, but at the end of every day it causes the same pain and it has the same outcome every time.
There are too many forms of abuse that people hear about the variations in lists, but they are never explained in detail but they need attention brought to the situation.
Physical and mental abuse usually go hand in hand, because when one happens, the other usually is served as a disgusting side dish. Physical abuse can mean a variation of things including hitting, kicking, whipping, starving, chaining, burning, and a fluent ratio of different forms. The other side of the epidemic is mental abuse and that is just as difficult to deal with most victims some that it is impossible. This kind of abuse can be : name calling, brainwashing, suicidal and homicidal thoughts, seducement, etc. A person could write an entire book out of various forms of physical and mental abuse, but these are not all the forms of abuse, however they are the most frequently
found.
Another form of abuse is sexual abuse and assault, even though this form of abuse has had the most attention brought to it there is still not enough being done about it and maybe that is because people have not explained it fully. People see sexual abuse and think “oh it's rape it could be worse,” it is worse there are kids that have are being brainwashing and making it look like they are happy but they are afraid to be afraid, kids having to be a husband or wife to there father forgetting what life is wishing for death(Bode 81-83). Some people say that if and when the pedopohile is gone it is over, that is a false statement the kids that had that happen, and manage to be adopted by a loving family, turn to a teenager old enough to babysit their new brother or sister , and what could possibly happen for instance, when the parents go out to work or on a date, the kid might rape their new brother because they have been brainwashed and turned into a savage all he or she knows is rape and abuse. the innocence of these children are in jeopardy and it is a national problem and most people think more needs to be done about this.
Like the previous paragraph stated that, it is not only full grown adults that can cause sexual abuse, it is not only young teens neither older teens and young adults can be the cause of such distress. No matter the age range, these predators can be a danger to others and themselves and they often have specific grounds where they look for victims (“ Sexual Assault”). The most common places where these predators hunt can include churches, playgrounds, fairs, restaurants, movie theatres, highways, and schools: colleges especially.When people think of college, there are many variations of college activity such as a place of discipline,freedom,education, and intelligence, parties, drinking, but that can leave one weary and unaware which can result in on campus rape. (“Sexual Assault ”)
Most people automatically and instinctively blame the pedophile, however it may not be just the petophile. (“Ziegler” 45) The problems of a child harasser are a very heavily debated topic, it is a grown individual that has sexual interest towards younger people usually children. Mental illness is something that can contribute to this but the person is still in control and should go to jail or at least a psychiatric hospital.
Some people think that this is a lie and that it is not that bad, and “yes it happens but it is not that many people,” there is a form of abuse every ninety eight seconds mainly sexual and it is mainly female only ten percent of abuse have male victims that means ninety percent are female. People can go deeper with numbers for instance there are 80,600 prison inmates, 60,000 children under the age of four, 321,500 general civilians, and 18,900 military men and women (“statistics, Rainn”). Realistically this epidemic is easily preventable pay attention to popular surroundings, if know of someone mentally ill admit them to a hospital, if it is happening to someone speak up, do not go to places alone, do not wander into cars with strangers, look for unspoken signs of struggle. With the community listening and participating the world may not be owned by cruel or ill people it will be owned by good hearted men,women,children, and other well meaning people that face problems of discrimination that can be looked into as well including, people with a different nationality or color, gays, bis, the homeless, etc. but there will be a peaceful world one day if the people all work together.
