Most of my high school experience has not been pleasant. I have struggled with depression and anxiety, as well as physical health problems since the end of sixth grade. My attitude and attendance in school have been inconsistent up until the end of last year; my second junior year. Up until that moment, I thought that school was a complete waste of time, and that the only thing our education system was meant to do was condition people to give up their individualism and turn them into mindless sheeple. However, over the summer I began to realize that having a negative attitude towards my life and everything around me was only going to hinder me. I have struggled to hold on to jobs in the past because of my habits that developed over the years. However, after repeating my junior year, and as I come closer to my eighteenth birthday, I have begun to develop better work …show more content…
habits as well as working to improve my attitude.
Since I was very young I have always been very independent.
My home life was not what you expect for most kids my age. My father passed away when I was three years old and my mother took it very hard. In turn I had to pick up the slack and do things that would not be expected from most teenagers my age. Although my home life has not been awfully pleasant, it has helped me develop skills that others in my age group have yet to learn. I have been planning my future since I was young, even though I hit a rough patch the last few years and lost focus. Now that I have started my senior year, I have many goals for myself. My road test is scheduled for the 29th of this month, and I hope to have my license and a car by the beginning of next month. Also, because of my bad habits from last year, I would like to break my old habits and not miss as much school this year, and would like to get a senior pass next semester. In preparation for my long term goals, I would like to somewhat improve my health to the best of my ability while still living with Ehlers Danlos Syndrome (it
sucks).
Now that I have complained a little bit I can talk about my plans for the future. SUNY Plattsburgh has been my dream college for years, and I took a trip for a tour in 2015. I have not looked around at many colleges but I know I would like to take advantage of the free college programs through New York State. Throughout this year, I would like to learn more about the college system and strengthen my writing skills to prepare me for college. While I don’t know what I would like to major in, I know I would enjoy something in the science field and I would also like to minor in art. Art has been the only thing I have consistently enjoyed through the years without getting bored of it, but I don’t think that it would be practical to pursue a career in art.
Besides going to college, I hope to build a life for myself to where I can be stable enough to live on my own for awhile, own a car, a place to call my own. Eventually I would like to build a family of my own, and rebuild my own family connections that have been pretty rocky for a long time. I hope not only to learn about skills for college this year, but also values as an individual that will help me succeed in life.
