Introduction:
With all the hard work being put into class grades and clubs, high school kids have no time to be kids. There’s no time left in the day to truly unwind and relax, there will always be something they should be doing; working further in a project, extra points on homework, and when they think they’re done, they just end up picking up a book to study for the remainder of their time. And sadly, this is how most of their high school experience is spent, studying and working as hard as they can, sometimes still not doing well in their classes. When it comes to high school (or any level of school, really), there are always major stress factors that can lead to mental/physical damage. Thankfully there are things that can be done to prevent such situations from getting out of hand, while still promoting a studious and educated learning environment.
Body Paragraph #1: Stress Factors
• Grades
• Teachers/coaches/faculty
• Family/friends/team mates
• Club/after school responsibilities
Body Paragraph #2: Harm Caused/Results of Stress Factors
• Depression (which leads down a dark road if left unnoticed)
• Stress snaps (sudden bursts of anger and/or sadness)
• Acting out to feel more relaxed
Body Paragraph #3: Preventive Measures
• Calmer learning environment
• Less rigorous curriculum, even in AP, Advanced, and Pre-Aice classes
• Places for students to go to deal with stress (i.e. study hall during lunch, guidance counselor after school, school club for students to unwind and relax even for a little bit)
