Hinduism may be the oldest religion, but is doesn’t have many adherents. For hindus, praying is a big part of their lives, they feel as if they have to show thanks to their gods by praying to them. Each with their own personality and works. The main god, Brahman, as believed in many religions, wrote a sacred text for the hindus to follow. The text given to them is called The Vedas. The Vedas is a collection of hymns and other religious texts written about 1500 to 1000 b.c. The beginning of this religion was never as clear as the time that the Vedas were written. Hinduism started as a philosophy and grew into this large religion. It would have never grown if it weren’t for its adherents. Hinduism has about 1 billion followers, It is the third largest religion in the world. The day of worship is not specific for the hindus. They worship daily or whenever they please. Most hindus have a shrine in their home. They worship, as I said before, at home or at their temple, which is formally known as a Mandir. Some of their beliefs consist of karma, dharma, moksha and meditation. Meditation is a time of thought and reflection where a person can communicate with the gods and achieve enlightenment. For Jews, God is a big part of their life style. Their day to day actions are governed by what they think God thinks. Judaism is a monotheistic religion, meaning that Jews worship only one God. That god’s name is Yahweh. The sacred text of Yahweh is called the Torah. The Torah is the first part of the Christian bible. The Torah is divided into five parts; those parts being Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy. Judaism was founded a long time ago; 1300 b.c. Its founder can be traced all the way to Abraham, but most say that Moses was its founder. Though it isn’t the largest religion, Judaism has over 14 million adherents. Making it the 5th largest religion in the world! These adherents, or followers, go and worship Yahweh and the Torah on Saturdays. Jewish people have a specific place they go to worship these things. Their place of worship is called a synagogue. In day to day life, Jewish people live their lives according to the Ten Commandments. The Ten Commandments are commandments written by God, which were given to Moses. They are, 1. You shall have no other gods before me, 2. You shall make no idols, 3. You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain, 4. Keep the Sabbath day holy, 5. Honor your father and mother, 6. You shall not murder, 7. You shall not commit adultery, 8.
