I have felt that being a part of the Hispanic community gives the right for others to think less of me or presume that I can not achieve my aspirations.
Either through the sarcastic remarks when I mention that I would like to one day be an engineer or the common shock of others knowing I have all A’s on my report card, I have been profiled to be subpar because of my ethnicity.
Although these actions do hurt, I use these remarks to fuel my desire to be greater than many people’s substandard belief of Hispanics.
