A land forming a border or frontier in an uncertain, intermediate district, space, or condition is called a Borderland. Borderlands are the geographical space or zone around a territorial border. A borderland is both a place and a historic graphic methodology, although historians often combine the two uses. A borderland, in its loosest definition, is a place where two entities (usually nations or societies) border each other. As a methodology, borderlands studies question what happens when distinct societies rub against each other or contest lands in between.

Borders are unique regions with their own cultural and political stresses. Despite this borderlands are often considered the peripheries of defined territories rather than as unique regions. Borderlands are regions characterized by contradiction. Borders can act as lines of division, splitting the landscape and the people living within it, or they can also act as regions of connection, where goods are traded and people from different territories and cultures interact. They are located on the edges of territories, yet borderlands frequently become important focal points in national politics. The concept of borders within the context of the discovery of the new world and subsequent colonization of Africa makes the framework guiding this study as colonial and postcolonial theory. The ability of people to make up colonies has had a great impact on history. Colonization has distributed knowledge and culture and led to the evolution and exploration of new border lands. It has, however, also resulted in wars of conquest and the destruction of peoples. This project will show how colonization has occurred over thousands of years and how these border crossing and colonialism generates the issues of racism and racial discrimination. It has also been continued by exploration and trading venture. A colony is a settlement that has been established by people from a different border land.
