Hitler planned to invade Great Britain after invading France. Operation Sea Lion was the code name for a provisionally proposed invasion of the United Kingdom amid the Battle of Britain in the Second World War. However, his generals were afraid of the British Royal Navy and Air Force and argued that air superiority should be established first.…
Dresden, Germany, 1945. “The British Royal Air Force (RAF) and the U.S. Air Force initiated a strategic bombing campaign in Dresden, Germany” (“Dresden Bombing” par.1). The attacks from Great Britain and the United States were prompted by earlier bomb raids conducted by Germany on British soil. With orders coming in from Arthur Harris, leader of bomb command for RAF, the bombing in Dresden began February thirteenth of the year 1945. The initial bomb raid from RAF was then later followed by 771 tons of bombs being dropped by United States aircrafts (“Dresden Bombing” par. 2-3). To this day there is still controversy around this major event. Whether it should considered a war crime against innocent civilians…
The Battle of the Bulge, also known as the Battle of Ardennes, was a major battle fought in northern France during World War II that took place in the Ardennes Forest of Belgium which is a mountainous region of dense forest. The Battle of Ardennes was given the nickname of the Battle of the Bulge because, as the German troops pushed back the center of the Allied forces' line, it created a deadly "bulge" pushing into Allied defenses. On the Allied side, most of the troops were American, which is why it is considered one of the greatest battles ever fought by the United States military. In fact, Prime Minister of Britain, Winston Churchill, said "This is undoubtedly the greatest American battle of World War II.”…

The story begins in the summer of 1935 in Warsaw, Poland, where we are introduced to a young couple, Antonina and Jan Zabinski. Antonina and Jan were the directors of Warsaw’s lush, fecund zoo in which the animals not only inhabited cages, but in habitats (engineered by the couple) to recreate the animals’ natural habitats. Both Antonina and Jan’s backgrounds were far from the norm; Antonina being a Russian-born Pole whose parents were murdered by the Bolsheviks during the early stages of the Russian Revolution and Jan, born a Polish Catholic, but raised atheistically by his father in a working-class Jewish neighborhood. It was these unique and differing foundations that made the Zabinski household almost a madcap bohemia, constantly hosting artists and intellectuals, and not to mention a seemingly never ending rotation of non-human companions, ranging anywhere from muskrats to lion cubs (all of whom had names).…
With the winter over, Elli’s birthday comes. She was now thirteen. Many wonderful things were happening. Jancsi Novack, her crush, said hello to her, she passed examinations, and she wrote for application forms to the Jewish Gymnasium in Budapest. Later that night, the Nazis returned to Elli’s house. They raided the whole entire house, tearing it to pieces. They took whatever they would like from the store, plus the family’s most precious belongings. A couple of nights later, Elli heard voices in the kitchens, which she came to find out is her Bubi. He had news for the family. The Germans invaded Budapest! Nobody knew anything about it. When the father came home from the synagogue the next morning, they thought something is wrong with Bubi because no one had heard anything about this invasion. They thought it was a false alarm, and they urged Bubi to return and finish his classes. They asked their neighbor, Mr. Kardos, who also had a son in Budapest, and he had heard nothing. They send Bubi on a train at 1 o’clock. At 1:20, Mr. Kardos returns to the family, saying he had news from his son that the Germans have invaded Budapest. They are herded into trains, which are locked and taken away. During that night, Bubi returned from Budapest.…

Many problems began for Germany when World War II began, but by the end of the war Germany was a disaster waiting to happen. After WWII was over Germany found itself split between France, the United States, Britain, and the Soviet Union, each country controlling a part. Berlin, which was surrounded by the Soviet Union, was also divided into four sections. The Soviet Union was in control of half of Germany, and it happened to be the East half of the Germany. The Soviet Union made East Berlin the capital of East Germany. The other three counties were each in control of a small part of what was to be West Germany. These three countries decided that they would come together to form one country out of their three sections. Those three sections formed West Germany.…

The end of the First World War left those on both sides tired, bitter, and disillusioned with the war itself. For the Americans, who had no wish to go in the first place, the effect of the death toll would weigh heavily upon their souls. The German soldiers, on the other hand, were bitter and angry by the outcome of the war, feeling they were forced to surrender against their will by their government. These details will play a major role in the long road toward the Second World War.…
At the turn of the 19th century a new political party rose and that whole era was named the Progressive Era. Even though their achievements are equal in most areas, Wilson took the cake with his actions to exempt unions from being prosecuted as trusts.…
