Corrupt Ambition Between Hitler and Macbeth
Corrupt aspects of Man’s nature are shown in William Shakespeare’s play Macbeth as well as through the ambition of Hitler and his desire to overthrow Germany and eliminate all Jews. This is shown by both Macbeth and Hitler’s murderous ambitious attitudes to do whatever it takes to become one of the most powerful people of their time.
In the beginning of the play Macbeth was a reasonably good man and a great solider. Macbeth was even described as being brave, and a gentleman by King Duncan. ”Like valor’s minion carved out his passage, Till he faced the slave; Which ne'er shook hands, nor bade farewell to him, Till he unseamed him from the nave to th' chops,” (act1 scene2 19-20). For Macbeth it was the throne of Scotland and for Hitler it was all of Europe. Macbeth’s great ambition was to rule all of Scotland. His ambition first started when the three witches in the woods predicted a prophecy of him ruling the kingdom. From there Lady Macbeth persuade Macbeth to kill the king, which would lead him towards his goal of ruling the whole kingdom. “I have no spur to prick the sides of my intent, but only vaulting ambition, which o'erleaps itself and falls on th' other”(Macbeth act 1 scene 7, 25-27). This shows that Macbeth originally knows that what he’s doing is wrong but continues to do it anyways because Lady Macbeth persuade him to and mocks his man hood. After this he continues to kill people because he thinks that certain people are a threat to his reign as king. “Faustian way, the acquisition of the sovereign crown ironical and poignantly spells the abdication of his sovereign soul. In murdering Duncan, he also murdered his peaceful soul” (Langis). Macbeth’s ambition drives him in the same way as Hitler’s ambition did him during World War 2. One of the ways that Hitler was ambitious, was because even after he took over all of Germany, he still craved more power. Hitler then proceeded to move on to the eastern soviet front and the western allied front. But in the end he did not have enough resources or power to fight on both sides, so this was one of the reasons he lost the war. Overall Hitler was ambitious like Macbeth, because he wanted all of
