The most important factor was The Enabling Act; this cancelled out competition but also but also brought many other crucial powers that proved key to his consolidation of power. By Hitler passing the Enabling Act he was effectively allowed the powers of a Dictator. He could pass any laws that he deemed necessary, he was allowed to banish any groups or clubs that he believed went against his views. But most importantly it allowed him to arrest any Communist and put them in jail. This power was called emergency powers. This lead to a huge decrease in Communists, as they now feared Hitler’s increasing power. As far as Hitler was aware, Communists were his main opposition and with them out of the way, there was a clear path towards consolidation of power.
The Reichstag fire was the second most important factor, this helped Hitler out in amore political way. The fire was blamed o Communists as it was proven that it could not possibly be Hitler because he could not gain from the situation. After word spread about Communists starting the fire, there was an evident drop in support. This helped Hitler to reduce his opposition and cause them to be less competition. Above all this Hitler was portrayed as a saviour and that he was the way forward for a greater Germany, this appealed greatly to the people of Germany, leading to an increase of Nazi support.
