Hodgkin disease, also known as Hodgkin lymphoma, is a cancer of the lymphatic system. The lymphatic system consists of the lymphocytes, which are part of the immune system. The lymphatic system has lymphoid tissues, lymphatic vessels and lymph. The lymphoid tissues can be found in bone marrow, tonsils, stomach, spleen and other organs in the body. Hodgkin’s disease can begin anywhere because there are so many parts of the body that has lymph tissue. The most common place for the disease to be found is in the chest and neck area with its lymph nodes. This disease can develop at any age, at any place in the body and attack in different ways. There are several different types of the Hodgkin disease; the types differ from the certain cells that are involved in the abnormality. There is the classic Hodgkin: nodular …show more content…
sclerosis Hodgkin, mixed cellularity Hodgkin, and lymphocyte rich/or depleted Hodgkin disease. These types differ in the number of cases, in places that they develop and age groups that is affected. Nodular Hodgkin being the most common type mainly found in younger adults. Whereas the mixed cellularity, is mostly seen in the older adults and is the second most common. There is also the nodular lymphocyte predominate Hodgkin disease. This disease is more common in men than women and is typically found in the neck and under arms. The cause for the disease is still unknown and continues to be researched. An abnormal B cell is a key factor in the coming of hodgkins disease. When the B cells break off and live while healthy cells die its creating abnormal B cells to take the space of the healthy cells. When healthy cells are being “taken over”, this can lead to the swelling, fever and sweats. A virus, Epstein-Barr, has been noted to have a connection with the disease but again the actual cause is still unknown. As any disease, there are signs and symptoms that are linked to the disease. The swelling in the lymph nodes is the most apparent, for possible cancer. The swelling is typically painless and in the neck or groin area. There is also fever, night sweats, itching of the skin and weight loss. These are symptoms found in other illnesses but should be tested for the cancer if noticed. Some people also have chest pains or a cough. If the disease is found in the lymph nodes of the chest, the swelling can cause the nodes to push against the person’s windpipe. There are different ways you can treat the cancer, the treatment depends on the stage that the person is at with the cancer and the symptoms.
There is radiotherapy, chemotherapy, stem cell transplant or a bone marrow transplant. These treatments can have effects on an individual with hodgkins. The cancer itself can be very hard for the person to cope with and accept. The therapies can be very tiring and cause different side effects like nausea and diarrhea. Also dryness of the skin can be a result of the therapies. Patients tend to have a negative attitude towards the treatment at this time. It is important for the patients to try and keep a good diet and get plenty of rest. Studies did show an increase in emotional and physical improvements after treatments, as well as the curing of the cancer. There are cases where there have been relapses with the disease but unlike some cancers the Hodgkin disease is a curable one with treatment. Again, cancer can be a strenuous time for the patient and can be life changing for them even after the progression with
treatments.

Hodgkin disease is a cancer that is curable with treatment but the reason of this cancer is unknown. The paper will touch base about what Hodgkin disease is and what researches think puts the cancer into effect. Also what the signs, symptoms and treatment are for the cancer and how it can affect one’s life.
