1. A linear text is an on going narrative, with the events revealing in sequential order, this occurs in the story of Cinderella where the events occur in sequential order. On the other hand, a non- linear text is a text that jumps through different time periods, then ultimately emerges at the end. She doesn’t complete the thread as she leaves each chapter on a cliff hanger, which leaves the reader with suspense. The three narrative thread captivates the reader and allows the reader to picture three different stories.

The Warden is a heinous character in Louis Sachar’s novel, Holes. She is a brutal and cruel ruler of the Juvenile Correctional Facility for boys. She is incredibly selfish and only cares about herself and her well-being, as displayed when she says “he’s not going to die, unfortunately for you.”, (pg91). The Warden is indeed sneaky and always will lie her way out of trouble, as displayed when she answers “Don’t shoot him, he can’t go anywhere. The last thing we need is an investigation.” (pg 139). Also, the Warden has utterly no respect for other lives, only pays attention to herself and her health. This is shown on pg 206, where she hisses “We wait, it won’t be very long”. This displays her unlike leadership behaviour, as she does not care the boys’ lives are in danger. The author describes The Warden as a horrible, rude person, who is disrespectful and cruel. She doesn’t care about improving the boys despicable behaviour, she uses them to dig the treasure for her. In the end, she is punished and all she had wished for, is

You are the best thing you have.…
