John Watson was the narrator of the detective stories. Watson was an army doctor in Afghanistan during the Second Afghan War. He was wounded in the war and could not practice medicine for several years. He was a soldier and a doctor. He cares for others while he also has the innate ability to protect others. He was once a roommate with Sherlock Holmes at the famous Baker Street address. He is a more clear-cut person that Holmes. Dr. Watson is a very smart man but his character is continuously bragging on Holmes. John Watson seems to be the most important person in Holmes life. Watson builds up Holmes at his own expense. Holmes asks Watson what he saw and what he observed in most of the stories. It makes us feel sorry for Watson when he has not gathered any of the obvious clues. Holmes states, “You did not know where to look, and so you missed all that was important” (Identity.83). Watson seems to live in a healthier environment than Holmes.
