Homeless People In America

In the late 1800s, to present, people in many parts of the world leave their homes country and immigrate to the United States. These people flee wars, job shortages, rising taxes, and famine etc., and came to America since it is perceived as the land of economic opportunity. But why are so many Americans suffering in the land of opportunity? Nonetheless, the 2012 Census indicate that poverty levels have remained persistently high at 15 percent. Nearly 48 million Americans find themselves on the food stamp rolls, and the numbers have been on an upward trajectory (Ciarcia, 2013). Likewise, more than 3.5 million people experience homelessness each year. 35% of the homeless population are families with children, which is the fastest growing segment of the homeless population. 23% are
military veterans ((Ciarcia, 2013). Do people truly choose to sleep outside in freezing temperatures or become Hungary? Personally, I believe it’s the system failure. There are many factors that are hindering people from getting where they need to be or out of poverty, such as oppression, racism and discrimination, etc. For instance, Blacks in America where enslave and oppressed and the definition of oppression is the denial of and individual’s or a group of people’s, happiness, and access to resources by another; the White Europeans. Since the racism is not abolish in the U.S, one would think operation is not far behind. There are many events such as police brutality that indicates this group is not truly free. I supposed this group or an individual’s failure could be on operation and racism they face on daily basis. For example, the economy is improving,
