When he had first arrived to Jefferson he had been but a little boy, a few years younger than Miss Emily herself, who at the time, was not quite eleven. He had come with a Negro girl, two or three years younger than him, and Mr. Grierson had been kind enough to take them in. Then about a week or so later the girl left, got on a train headin’ North, and the boy had been with the Grierson’s ever since. In the next twenty years he had turned into a rather handsome young man. He had big broad shoulders, long lean legs which allowed him to tower several inches above most men, and a straight tight jawline. His brows were sharp above his deep brown eyes. He wore a suit, that had once belonged to Mr. Grierson
