26th president of the U.S
Some might not know who “Teddy Roosevelt” is. Teddy Roosevelt or Theodore Roosevelt is the 26th president of the United States. Roosevelt is remembered for many great things, like his foreign policy, corporate reforms, and ecological preservation. At age 42, Roosevelt became the youngest president to be elected. Teddy Roosevelt made out country a lot stronger and prodded us with all the help we needed. He has been called the nation's first modern president, in part because he dealt with many of the issues that we still struggle with today. Theodore Roosevelt Jr. was born on October 27, 1858, in New York City, to Theodore "Thee" Roosevelt Sr., of Dutch heritage, and Martha "Mittie" Bulloch. His family owned a successful plate-glass import business. He was very ill as a child, suffered from asthma. As well as being being very motivated, he was very intelligent. Roosevelt graduated from Harvard and then moved on to law school in Columbia University. Although he did not continue law school, he did join the New York State Assembly as a representative from New York City, he was the youngest one to ever have that position. Roosevelt was accomplishing all the things he ever wanted to do, until the death of his mother and wife. Roosevelt abandoned all his responsibilities and moved to Dakota and became a cowboy and cattle rancher. Two years after he returned and resumed his political career. When Roosevelt returned he remarried to Edith Kermit Carow. He also returned too his political life, first as a civil service commissioner, then as a New York City police commissioner and U.S. Navy assistant secretary under President William McKinley. Having an interest in the Spanish-American War, Roosevelt left his government post to organize a volunteer cavalry known as the Rough Riders, which he led in a bold charge up San Juan

    They were married in October 1880. Roosevelt then enrolled in Columbia Law School, but dropped out after one year to begin a career in public service. He was elected to the New York Assembly and served two terms from 1882 to 1884. A double tragedy struck Roosevelt in 1884. On February 12th, Alice gave birth to a daughter, Alice Lee. Roosevelt headed back East in 1886; a devastating winter the following year wiped out most of his cattle. Although he would frequent the Dakota Badlands in subsequent years to hunt, he was ready leave the West and return to his former life.
