Theodore Roosevelt's Accomplishments

Theodore Roosevelt was the 26th, and youngest, president of the United States. When Theodore had to take office he was only 43 years old. Theodore Roosevelt is known for many of his achievements while in office as well as before and even after he was in office. Before taking office Roosevelt was assistant secretary of the navy from 1897-1898, once the Spanish-American war started he became a lieutenant colonel and came out a hero. Theodore Roosevelt became president in 1901 after the assassination of the previous president, William McKinley. During his presidency, he made the U.S. less isolated, Expanded the U.S. Navy, and reserved lands for public use. In 1901, Theodore Roosevelt became the first president to ever entertain a black man in
the white house. He had invited the author and educator, Booker T. Washington to have dinner with him and his family at the white house. This was very controversial at the time.
Theodore Roosevelt made many speeches on various occasions, some of his most well-known speeches are the Man in the arena speech (April 23, 1910), Speech to Veterans (July 3, 1903), and the National convention of the progressive party speech (august 16, 1903). He also was able to represent the United States on various occasions such as; the first 2-way wireless communication, featuring a message from President Roosevelt on January 18, 1903. On November 3, 1903, Panama had declared independence from Colombia and the Panama government was recognized by President Roosevelt, this event started the Canal Treaty. Theodore Roosevelt was also the first president to take an official trip abroad while in office on November 9, 1906.
As chief executive, Theodore Roosevelt created the executive wing of the white house in 1902.
He was also very focused on conservation of natural resources so many of his executive orders were made to establish laws on conservation.
As a former part of the military, Theodore Roosevelt felt that he always had to be ready for the possibility of war. He used his military a total of 14 times while in office. As previously said, Theodore Roosevelt had created and signed many pieces of legislation throughout his time in office. He was known for always keeping congress busy.
As chief diplomat, Theodore Roosevelt came up with the “Big Stick Policy”. A policy in which he used to explain his relations with domestic political leaders and his approach to certain issues. Theodore was very active with the Russo-Japanese war. During the war he expanded Japanese influence over Asia and negotiated the Russo-Japanese war, he won a Nobel Prize for his negotiations in the war. One of, what Theodore himself considers, his greatest achievements was his creation of the Panama canal. He created the canal as a way to ship goods quickly and cheaply through Atlantic and pacific
coasts.
As a judicial leader, Theodore Roosevelt nominated 3 court justices; William day, Oliver holmes jr, and William moody.
He also appointed 18 judges to the U.S court of appeals as well as appointing 53 judges to U.S. district courts. Theodore Roosevelt was an especially effective economic leader because he was very concerned with the conservation of natural resources and made many plans to benefit the long-term use of natural resources. Theodore saw large businesses as essential to helping the growth of the economy and was a supporter of large businesses.
As chief of Party, Theodore Roosevelt was an influential figure during the progressive era, with only some democratic gains in both midterm elections. Roosevelt was known as good when working with congress and the republican party.
Theodore Roosevelt did a good job executing his presidential roles because he acted as a leader for his nation and made a lot of progress while in office. He had a good idea of what he wanted to do and what he wanted to happen to benefit the nation and he executed those things well and in a professional way. He was an influential leader at his time and a role model for following leaders of the United
States.
