Honesty and consequences of not following the rules

Problem

Honesty is when you tell the whole truth about something you know without changing anything about what happened, it´s something that should be practiced in behavior and in character as well.
Some people think that lying to someone or lying about something is the easiest way to get out of some uncomfortable situation, but it´s actually worst getting caught by someone than telling the truth in the first place because If you were trying to not hurt other peoples feeling by telling them something that is not true then it would certainly hurt them more, because all we have to do is tell them in a nicer way. Or if you are between a group of friends and you don´t want to be dishonest you can tell that person later what you really wanted to say and just stay silence.
In consequence of being dishonest you could lose all the trust that the people around you had for you, because you are ruining your own reputation by lying to them, so how do you expect them to believe in you when you are always dishonest with them?.
There is a saying “Honesty is the best policy”, and I think this saying is so right, because by being honest we can feel good with ourselves because we know we´re not doing anything wrong and we don’t have to worry about feeling guilty for lying, because lying in a never ending cycle, when you are dishonest you would have to lie about the lie you said before and so on.
And knowing all this, which is the importance of honesty from adults to society?
Because all the kids have their parents as role models, or their elders or the person they grew up with so

Honesty is essential for most jobs. Once the lies have begun it takes more lies and fictitious statements to continuously keep up this front. Smith claims that whether a person is caught being dishonest does not matter. She states, “… it prevents rational thinking. Dishonesty leads a person to premise actions on falsehoods rather than on facts.” (Smith 525)…

To lie or not to lie? We are often faced with this question when stuck in sticky situations. It seems as if lying is our second nature, and that is not a good thing. In the articles “Brad Blanton: Honestly Tell The Truth” by Barbara Ballinger and “Teens Do Their Share of Lying” by Loretta Ragsdell, the authors discuss lying and argue its’ justifiability. I agree with the concept that lying is never acceptable because it is morally wrong.…

Lies are told around the world multiple times during the day. Everyone sitting in this room has probably once today, said a lie. Sometimes lying is understandable for someone’s protection but sometimes the truth is essential to the person. There are multiple things people say in a day that are seen as lies such as “That outfit looks really good on you!,” “It wasn’t me!” and “I’ll be with you in a few minutes.” Honestly is not always the best policy because in the end it does not make everything better. People tell little lies so that they protect someone they care about and not hurt the feelings of another person. Honesty not always being the best policy is showed in The Scarlet Letter, “Tell All The Truth” poem, the “He Lies” video,…

    Why Are Lies Wrong

The debate over the acceptability of lying is a complicated one. Some feel that it is morally wrong and only ever worsens a situation. Others feel that it is acceptable in cases where feelings could be hurt, or if a person’s self-esteem may be lowered. However, there are instances in which lying happens simply to avoid the consequences of a person’s actions, and most would agree that it is morally wrong. Instead of going back and forth between “lying is wrong” and “lying is okay sometimes,” a better use of our time would be learning to improve our honesty with ourselves and with the people around…

    Way We Lie

First off let me start of by saying that we lie. We all do. We exaggerate, we leave out things, we avoid confrontation, we try to be inconsideration of other people feelings, we conveniently forget some aspects of the truth and even keep secrets. Like most people, I find myself in situations of small falsehoods and still think of my self of an honest person. Sure I lie, but it’s not really bothering anyone or anything.…

Often, people say that honesty is the best policy and is defined as the act of telling the truth to the best of one’s knowledge. Coupled with the definition of honesty is the belief that telling the truth all the time is good because of certain reasons. Primary motive is that many consider saying the truth as an aid in improving one’s self. For instance, one project organizer asks one of the staff if the theme chosen for the occasion is well suited. Then, one of the personnel has the guts to tell the truth that a better theme is fitted for the event. The project organizer will then have a better idea, thereupon aiding to the betterment of the organized project. Likewise, saying the truth helps us to earn others’ trusts. According to Nathalie Himmelrich, in her article entitled Truth versus Honesty: Is there a Difference , even though the explanation of the word ‘trust’ does not distinctively take into account the word honesty, it is implied in the word. Similarly, stating what reality…

Most of the time it is easier to tell a lie than it is to tell the truth and there is no way that we will ever completely eliminate lying from our society, because it does make our lives so much easier. Sometimes though lying can come with consequences, and it can backfire when someone discovers that you lied. Lying can cause a situation to become worse than it would have been if the truth had been told. Take James Frey for an example. He wrote an autobiography called A Million Little Pieces and the book was featured on Oprah and put on her book club list. After a while it was discovered that parts of his autobiography were not real and he was humiliated on a national level. If he had told the truth then his book could have still been published, but as a fictional story, and he could have still been a successful author and had a bestselling book. You should always be careful with the lies you tell and who you tell them to because there’s always a chance that someone will find out and then you would be in trouble.…

Next, being honest keeps trust with others. For example, Cohen states in the article, “It’s the Truth: Americans Conflicted About Lying” that “One key cost is credibility: Once a person finds out you lied, you lose currency in their eyes” (Para. 12). This shows how you should tell the truth instead of lying. This also shows how being honest keeps trust with others. Your credibility is not worth giving up for a lie.…

The ability to have honesty is to do the right thing even if it may be hard. Honesty starts with a vision of what is right, not based on what somebody says is right but on what you feel in your heart is right. A year ago, one of my best friends wanted to participate in a talent show at school. She always had a thing for singing and she sang all the time. Where ever she went she had a song in her head. Unfortunately she did not have the best voice to carry out her songs. So one day I sat her down before the…

I believe honesty is the best policy but if the truth will hurt some ones feeling I think sometimes lying in small circumstance would be a better choice. Personally I would prefer to be told the truth all the time, but I know a lot of people who are sensitive and they would be offended by the truth. I disagree with Immanuel Kant telling a small lie to spare…

It is especially tempting to lie when telling the truth will get you into trouble, but remember this: lies are usually discovered, which only makes matters worse. All people make mistakes, but lying about what you've done makes the situation far worse. It shows that you can't be trusted. People who are truthful about their mistakes are admired because it takes courage and a great deal of maturity to admit when you're wrong. You will find that when you own up to your misdeeds, your parents or teachers will appreciate your honesty and be much more forgiving than if you had lied about it and later been found out. People appreciate others who are honest because they know those people can be counted on.…

    Effects of Lying

Lying destroys trust amongst people and results in lost prestige. When trust is lost, it is difficult to earn it back because we tend to assume that a person who has lied once will lie to us again. We then start to put our defences up against that person in order not to be deceived once again. Not only that, sometimes, we also tend to bear a grudge for long periods of time and it takes a while before the person who lied is forgiven, that is, if we ever choose to forgive and forget. The…
