Lying is never acceptable because it avoids stress and keeps trust with others. First, being honest avoids stress. For example, in the article entitled “Brad Blanton: Honestly, Tell the Truth” Blanton states “You have to remember what you told each person. You have to think about what the person’s reaction might be, and you start manipulating information to control the outcome” (Ballinger 7). This shows how delivering the truth is easier than lying. This also shows how being honest reduces stress. Avoiding the truth makes life harder on yourself. Next, being honest keeps trust with others. For example, Cohen states in the article, “It’s the Truth: Americans Conflicted About Lying” that “One key cost is credibility: Once a person finds out you lied, you lose currency in their eyes” (Para. 12). Lies are commonly told to protect others emotions and their self-esteem, yet lies still are seen as wrong. So why is it so hard sometimes to handle the truth? Isn’t it better to be hearing the truth than being lied to your face? Maybe the problem is not the lies themselves, but we as a people lacking the ability to understand the truth and its effects that it can have. This would require that we learn better ways to resolve conflicts and the capabilities to move on from those situations. We need to question, “Would I rather be deceived right now and have the conflict become worse later, or get it over with right now?” Once we learn the benefits of telling the truth and become capable of understanding these benefits then we will be able to live in a society of complete honesty.…

One time I tried going a couple of days without telling a lie, and it was devastating. I noticed that telling the truth all the time is very impossible. Telling the truth comes with some serious consequences: Bank of America charges me 50 dollars fee for going over my limit, lost my best friend because I told her how I truly feel, and I received a failing grade for telling my teacher I didn’t feel like being on time to class today. Basically there must be some type of merit to not telling the truth.…

Why should one tell the truth if it’s one’s advantage to lie? This question caught my attention as I scanned through a thick, old and tattered encyclopedia. While I was sitting on a green comfy chair parallel to a wooden table, I pondered upon the said question coming from a renowned philosopher named Ludwig Wittgenstein who formulated the theory of truth. It was said that he spent his entire life answering the question which made me wonder how long it would take me to provide the answer to this query. This speculation then reminded me of one instance in my life where in I needed to lie for a certain purpose. At first, I was bothered by my conscience but later on I realized that I did the right thing. To be untruthful is inescapable in this world. Not a soul is capable of getting away with it. If truth be told, life as it is could not exist without lying. To lie is to deviate from the truth deliberately but it does not always follow that lying is bad.…
