Honor killing is an unmerciful practice that occurs in various cultures. Honor crime is a comprehensive issue so it should be evaluated in a lot of ways. Actually, author tries to understand determinants of the cultural construction of the honor crime and the effects of its deployment. For this reason, she has not reduced multilayered and complex problem to a simple conspiracy. Therefore, according to the author, researching honor crimes will be an inception to research woman rights and violence against woman and also she mention polygamy and forced marriage are one of the important issues which are supposed to be researched in this context. And then, she questions what is honor and how being honorable. Being honorable does not mean behaving as society expects from us.
Actually, essay is not convincing me exactly because author overemphasizes honor killings in immigrant communities and she does not say about honor killings of relation to homosexuality. Homophobia, biphobia and transphobia are one of the most important reasons for honor crimes. The act of honor killings in Brazil has roots in Latin America's version of machismo.”2 these honor killings occurred in different countries which have particular nations, customs, cultures, political structures and religions .This shows that honor killings do not emerge from a particular factor like culture, politics and religion.
