Change in an organization is not only inevitable but necessary and it is no different for Huntington Memorial Hospital. To continue offering quality of care that is evidence based and that delivers on the unique value proposition in line with its mission, Huntington Memorial Hospital is switching to an automated and electronic prescription system. This system will inject effectiveness in the organization, reduce human errors greatly and will also enable the organization to deliver on its promise of patient safety. While pursuing the transition from human to electronic prescription, wide stakeholder engagement and consensus building is expected in order to ensure the system is widely supported and successful.

This is a medium size healthcare facility, admitting well over 26,000 patients annually and has a 500 bed seater capacity. Reports and data gathered availed from the facility also indicate that there are as many as 50,000 visits annually to the emergency room (Huntington Hospital New Look & Feel, 2016). However, this task has become difficult to achieve as a result of human errors when prescribing medications. In an attempt to remain true to the organization’s mission and core values, Huntington Memorial Hospital introduced e-services into their system. This action was made in order to cut down on human prescription errors, and therefore improving their quality health care delivery. (Burnes, 2005). This drive to reduce inconsistencies and mistakes on medication prescriptions is one of the main reasons of wanting to make these organizational changes in Huntington Memorial Hospital.
