Hour Based Work Case Study
Las Vegas is famous for its variety of grandiose hotels and restaurants throughout the city which place tip-based jobs on demand. The average tip a server receives a day is around $100-150 in addition to the amount the company pays them hourly. Although a tip-based job can be highly beneficial, Elderly people experience a dilemma when deciding to give up the stability of their hour-based jobs. Elderly people is afraid to take risks when it comes to their jobs. Sticking to a hour-based job for them is more reliable and more secure than to be contingent on tips. The hour-based worker is paid an estimate of $17.50/hour while a tip-based worker (hereafter referred to as “server”) is paid $8.50/hour plus tips. Without considering the daily tips, it’s agreeable that hour-based is a more reliable income. However, considering the minimal tip amount of $100/per day brings a server’s income obviously higher. Elderly people do not want to deal with adjusting their bills and computing their earnings if their weekly tips are lower than the week before. They’re used to earning the same amount and spending the same amount. Hour-based workers have predicted schedules, which means they’re guaranteed forty hours of work …show more content…
When they transfer to a new job, they will be on a probationary status. This means that they will lose their benefits for six months or until they become regular employees. The most important of their benefits is their health insurance. As people get older, their health deteriorates. They have multiple doctor’s appointments to check their health status. In addition, they need maintenance medications. To be honest, medical needs can be quite expensive if paying out-of-pocket. In addition to them losing their health benefits, they will also lose their seniority position within the company. They will be the least to consider when they need to adjust their current

    Respectfully I have to say that I do not agree completely with Beatty’s poem about tipping. I go out to eat almost every weekend and when its time to tip, I just give the person ten percent plus whatever I feel like is proportional to the service him / her gave to me. Her tone throughout the poem seem be irritated, which could probably accredited to bad tipping experiences in the past.
