series broadcasted on Bravo. These shows document the lives of the housewives in various regions of the U.S. In the year of 2017, one of the housewives was arrested and had multiple articles made about this arrest.
In one of these articles there is a brief description of the incident stating, “Luann De Lesseps from the real housewives of New York was arrested in florida on sunday December 24, 2017 on several charges including battery of an officer, and disorderly intoxication” (Natalie Stone). This relates to the subject matter, loneliness and isolation, seeing as close to the arrest her husband at the time had an affair, resulting in a divorce between the two. Also as soon as she got arrested the news was out, thus including dozens of articles being made from this incident detailing every aspect of the arrest. “Sonja Morgan from the real housewives of New York was bankrupt for about 5 years. She says a failed venture between her production company and another company, Hannibal Pictures, inc. is what destroyed her financially. The company was supposed to make a movie with John Travolta, but never got off the ground. Resulting in Hannibal Pictures filing a suit against her and winning $7 million in judgement” (Bruna Nessif & Beth Sobol). The article relates to the theme of loneliness and isolation in view of the fact that every moment of this was documented on her show and there were also many articles made by this situation, she …show more content…
basically had no ability to deal with this in a private manner. “Yolanda Hadid from the real housewives of Beverly Hills was diagnosed with a bacterial infection called Lyme Disease in 2012. Since then she has faced an uphill battle because there is no known cure for the illness”(Grace Gavilanes). Being the mother of three world famous children, she always has to put on a brave face and be a role model. The fact of the matter is, she was suffering for a long time due to this disease, she also primarily had to stay at hospitals and at her home, basically meaning she wasn’t able to have her social life for a while and she couldn’t spend time with her friends. There are people that tune in every week for updates of these housewives lives from their show, resulting in false rumors constantly being made about these housewives mainly on television. It is well known that producers of shows such as the housewives cut some of the things being said by these housewives to make the show more entertaining. Jay Gatsby from The Great Gatsby novel is perceived through Nick Carraway’s eyes as a fabulously wealthy young man living in a gothic mansion in west egg.
He is also very mysterious and nobody really knows him very well, therefore nick begins to discover the true man and the life of the mysterious Jay Gatsby throughout the novel. “The truth was that Jay Gatsby of west egg, Long Island, sprang from his platonic conception of himself” (Fitzgerald 98). All that Jay Gatsby ever wanted was to live a luxurious life with the person he loved. He had built a brand new life for himself that was completely different than the life he used to live when he was younger. He built wealth and success hoping to the fact that would be enough to impress Daisy. He would have enormous parties in his house many times all for Daisy hoping that one day she would realize. “Your place looks like the world’s fair,” I said. “Does it? He turned his eyes toward it absently. “I have been glancing into some of the rooms. Let’s go to Clooney Island, old sport. In my car.” “It’s too late.” “well, suppose we take a plunge in the swimming pool? I haven’t made use of it all summer.” “ I’ve got to go to bed.” “All right” (Fitzgerald 3-8). This relates to loneliness and isolation seeing as he had a full house of people, and all he wants is one friend to go swimming with him and that one friend doesn’t want to. “He stayed there a week, walking the streets where their footsteps had clicked together through the
November and revisiting the out-of-the-way places to which they had driven in her white car” (Fitzgerald 28). This is very heartbreaking pertaining to the fact that he was most likely thinking of Daisy. Daisy was the love of his life and mainly everything he did was for her and for an opportunity that she might eventually come back to him. Jay Gatsby is a splendid example of loneliness and isolation seeing as, he lives a quite luxurious lifestyle and it is perceived to the reader that gatsby has many friends close to him. The fact of the matter is when he counted on his friends to be there during the rough times, those same friends were no where around. As well as the luxury and the parties he would host were only to hopefully impress one person that was already married to someone else.
The phrase the American Dream can mean many different things. Many people believe this to be famous or extremely wealthy and successful, although along with this success there is also loneliness and isolation that can also come with the amount of publicity their lives get. There is quite a difference between ordinary people that people that are watched closely in the public eye. As soon as a celebrity or a highly successful person makes a simple mistake or says something they probably shouldn’t have, such as many ordinary people do on a day to day basis, these celebrities receive a large amount of hate and backlash from these simple mistakes because people perceive their lives to be perfect and for them not to make any mistakes and that is just simply not the way life revolves.
