Housing Issues In College

As I remember, one of the biggest challenges I have faced in college is that my housing issue. I am currently a sophomore in college, and live in my parents’ house. But when I was a freshman I used to live at dorm with a girl. Flashback to my freshman year, everything was played out smoothly because the two of us just met getting to know each other. At first, my roommate started out just like me, who is quietly and timid. But not long after that, about 1 and half weeks, she completely changed her attitude towards school and works. She is very friendly and socially confident, which is very opposite of me. She hung out with her friends a lot after class hours and I have met some friends of her. They are very socially active. Hence, no wonder
But I could not say no to her ever and so I decided to have fun to know what college life is like. Surprisingly, the party is not what I thought it would be. It was all about couples in college, there were strangers everywhere. After that time, I didn’t attend any of her party. I think this is a perfect example of cognitive dissonance because attending a party is contradicted to my habits. However, I feel grateful because my experiences when living at dorm help me more when I registered this sociology class. The lesson I have learned is that the existence of other people will affect me somewhat; either those people will improve my performance at school or transforming me to be one of them. In addition, there will be the point where other people persuade me to do something that is against my will and value. It is no doubt to say that our reactions, thinking, behaviors, emotions, and gestures are influenced by others (Newman 2014). But by taking this class I get to know more about my roommate’s actions on how she is so friendly and active like that. Things are not always what they
