How BBC Recruits
Assignment 1

Task 1 Identify how two organisations plan their recruitment campaign using internal and external sources. (P1)

1) River Island:-

• Internally: They advertise vacancies internally to hire suitable employees from the current workforce first. This is because the person already from the organisation already has an idea of what skills are needed and what their responsibility will be. This is a chance for the current employees to get a promotion or gain more responsibilities. Advantages of hiring internally are: the vacancy is cheap to advertise; possible candidates for the role are already known to the company; motivates workers and also the candidates already know the company and the responsibilities the job will entail. However, the disadvantages of hiring internally are: there are a limited number of candidates; change amongst ranks may cause problems; and the promoted employee will need to be replaced by someone new so there will need to be an external advertisement as well.

• Externally: This is the opposite of employing internally; it’s the process of recruiting from outside the organisation. River Island has put up a website that advertises job recruitments; work placements; and how to sign up for an interview for job vacancies. You are given a choice of what you want to apply to from the available work vacancies. The advantages of recruiting externally are: that there are a higher number of potential candidates; the new employees may have new ideas to enforce and they may bring in new skills to the store. On the other hand, the disadvantages of hiring externally are: that advertisement is more expensive and takes longer to find the best employees for the store; and the employee may not be as good as they first appeared during interviews and such.

2) The BBC:-

• Internally: The BBC is committed to supporting their employees through the redeployment process to find suitable alternative employment within the

The technique an organization employs for its recruiting practice depends on how employment opportunities come available. However, the size of an organization will have an effect on recruitment functions. Job analysis is considered to be the cornerstone of an (HRM). Therefore, internal selection of candidates can come through employee profiling (Snell and Bohlander, 2013). In most cases, larger firms may provide their own intranet websites for job opportunities that come available. There are employees that meet additional qualifications in other positions within the organization. In addition, electing to recruit internally can also cut cost for advertisement. Hiring internally allows the organization to find employees that quality for other jobs openings. On the other hand, recruiting externally is another way organizations are adopting a source for posting career opportunities. Organizations are using Facebook now as their social network. More and more people are seeking job opportunities through social networking. In addition, organizations have started to create their own facebook page as a way of promoting career opportunities as well (Snell and Bohlander, 2013). Recruiters have also taken out ads to post or attract external employment opportunities that come available. One reason for hiring externally is to avoid losing top performers of the…

Stonefield will not be able to utilize the method of internal sourcing. However once the business is established and services are rendered Landslide will then be able to incorporate the process of internal sourcing for recruiting candidates. Internal sourcing consists of posting the vacated or new position in an easily and highly visible area within a business for current employees to view. Internal sourcing is a very valuable tool to use as it utilizes the internal candidate pool and is a cost saving measure for the business as current employees are at present employees of the company and is acquainted and accustomed to the culture of the business and allows the employee a feeling of “climbing the ladder” thus creating success for the employee as there will be little to no training and orientation for the new position. There is a potential disadvantage to internal sourcing, there may be a chance of stagnation as it does not allow for the potential for fresh new ideas that external sourcing may bring. Therefore it would be post haste of the marketing department to keep up with changes in the market and knowing what other similar businesses are…

    Hiring Outsiders

I will start off by discussing the benefits from hiring from the outside. When some companies seem to be stuck in old traditional work places, it get boring and sometimes business doesn’t really improve. This is why companies look to hire people from the outside. They do this because they are looking with people who will bring unique skills to the company. Also, it can give the company new ideas and new energy for the work place. The article states that “the thought processes are common among workers and bosses, and a new study shows how they play out. The study, by Matthew Bidwell, an assistant management professor at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, found that external hires, on average, make around 18 percent more money than internal employees with similar positions.” I found this statement to be a very interesting point when it comes to the debate on whether or not to hire or not from the outside. It definitely shows that the numbers are better for profit, so that is definitely a big positive when it comes down to the question for managers who ask should they hire externally? However, later on in the article it states that in that same study, they perform less well in the first two years and are also more likely to leave or be let go. This is why companies don’t hire from the outside, because it takes to long for the employees to get use to the company they were hired at, rather then the one they were doing well at previously, this is one con of hiring from the outside.…
