Today, many parents attempt to raise their children to be perfect and therefore many children feel insecure and that they are forced into an education. However, this correlation between parents’ method of upbringing and children’s childhoods has caused great debate throughout the last couple of years.
The first text is a response to the article, Why Chinese mothers are superior. The article is written by Amy Chua. Amy’s daughter, Sophia Chua-Rubenfield wrote a reply to the article. Why Chinese Mothers Are Superior is a provocative article which points out that Chinese mother’s way of raising their children are superior to the rest of the world. Normally every parent wants to see their little child grow up and become a successful and happy adult. Many parents have the opinion that success and happiness is connected with a high education.
That’s the case with Sophia and her Chinese mother Amy. Sophia studied subjects like math and physics, and played classic instruments like piano and violin. She was not allowed to watch television and have play dates, but Sophia became an independent and content girl.
“A lot of people have accused you of producing robot kids who can’t think for themselves” . This tells me that plenty of people disagree with this extraordinary way of raising a child and has written hateful comments to the article therefor has Amy’s eighteen year old daughter, Sophia written a reply to the article. People who have commented on Amy’s way of educating her children on, has found it narrow minded and made her children unable to make important decisions on their own, but Amy’s daughter, Sophia disagrees. She believes that it actually had the opposite effect. She is a prime example, since she was raised by a Chinese mother. “I think your strict parenting forced me to be more independent” .
