Je Pabongka composed the Shugden´s life-entrustment ritual on the insistence by Shugden himself. Pabongka conferred the Shugden Life-Entrustment practice for the first time in 1921. However, in 1935, he went to meet his teacher Takpo Dorjechang Pema Benza in the hope of obtaining a reliable source of the practice, which he needed desperately. The pro-Shugden followers say that the Life-Entrustment practice originated from the pure vision of Takpo Dorjeechang.
But then, why had Tagbhu Dorjeechang Pema Benza not included the dream he had of Dorjee Shugden in his Collected Work of the visions he experienced in his lifetime?

Pabongka wrote and, I quote here, "Tagbhu Dorjeechang doesn't worship Gyalchen Dorje Shugden. He treats him like a watchdog to protect a house." Then, why Pabongka Rinpoche had a sudden change of heart? In the early part of his life, a very charismatic Geluk teacher, Kyabje Pabongka practised the teachings from all the four schools of Tibetan Buddhism. But it was in the later part of his life, probably, he came under the magical spell of Shugden who allured him completely. Since then, He came under the direct control of the spirit. He did everything according to the whim of this spirit. Since then, Kyabje Pabongka embarked the campaign of promoting and spreading Shugden practice. Consequently, The 13th Dalai Lama warned him sternly. Therefore, Pabongka sent him a letter of confession. Following is the content of the letter of Pabongka to the great 13th Dalai Lama. " I have propitiated Shugden until now because my old mother told me that Shugden was the deity of my maternal lineage. I wish to inform you that from now onwards, with intense regret I will never again propitiate (Shugden) or make daily offerings and supporting prayers. I will wholeheartedly keep this commitment in the depth of my heart. Whatever mistakes I have committed until now, such as displeasing the Great Nechung Choegyal, overriding the precepts of taking refuge and so forth, I request you, the supreme lord, who is especially kind
