How Did Dorothy Day Contribute To The Poor

If you could give up all of your belongs to help the poor, would you? Many would not, but Dorothy Day was different. Mrs. Day was a tremendous lady, always lending a helping hand. After watching the video we did in class, I cannot name a more selfless person than her. It seemed like no matter what the issue was or what problems are going on in her life, Dorothy would always reach out to help whomever she could. It could be as simple as her kind words or as demanding as materialistic items, but Dorothy would never say no. Not to mention somehow, someway she would be doing this deed with a smile on her face. One thing that really spoke wonders to me was the fact that Dorothy had an abortion. Even though she was excommunicated from the Church, she persevered to become the best person she can be. In today’s society, many people will just hang their heads if an event like this occurred but Mrs. Day did not let this discourage her. Rather than turning away from the Church, she did as much as she could to unite with it, devoting her life to serving others. Dorothy started at the bottom and ended up becoming a truly magnificent Christian.
Back than, the poor were excluded from others in the world. Dorothy created a community to unite the poor and everyone else. These connections she made were really a beautiful thing as it helped shape us Catholic into the people we are today. We are all humans. Not one person is better than the other because of their wealth, race, gender, etc. Dorothy was able to bring together people that usually never would have united one another, fixing a negative situation. Do not get me wrong, not everyone is united together through Dorothy—that would be impossible. But what Dorothy Day was able to do helped change us, the people of the Church, for the
