In 1987, the two largest breweries in Belgium, Artois and Piedboeuf, merged to become Interbrew. In 1995, Interbrew acquired the Labatt Brewing Company of Canada. In 2002 they acquired Brauerei
Beck of German. In 1999, the two largest Brazilian brewers, Antarctica and Brahma, merged to become AmBev. In 2004, Interbrew and AmBev merged to become InBev. In 2008, Anheuser-Busch and InBev merged to become Anheuser-Busch InBev. In order for the United States Department of Justice to approve the merger, the new company was required to sell its subsidiary, LaBatt USA. This was sold to North American Breweries of Rochester, NY.
On October 10, 2016, AB InBev purchased SABMiller. The new entity is known as Newbelco. Molson Coors took over SAB Miller’s American Coors holdings.
