First of all, she could’ve got her family out of a pretty lousy situation with her ruthless father. It even states in the text he was abusive. “Even now, though she was over nineteen, she sometimes felt herself in danger of her father’s violence.” If she could have set a foundation elsewhere; her younger siblings wouldn’t be doomed to suffer under the same abuse. It might have been a faraway country, but sometimes that can be best. Being abused would not be favorable for anyone’s health! It states in the story, “She knew the air Strange that it should come that very night to remind her of the promise to her mother, her promise to keep the home together as long as she could.” Her mother asked her to take care of the family if something happened to her. She did ask her to keep the home together, but Eveline wouldn’t be taking care of her family if she just stayed there while they were all being hurt. Eveline would be taking a leap to put her family in a better situation; therefor doing more than her mother even imagined. I believe if her mother saw her whole family bettering themselves she’d be
