Catherine the Great: I give you credit because you have helped thousands of people but, you have also put your people in danger by leading your country into many wars.
Frederick II: I lead my country into wars to fight the people who try to hurt us. How about when you tortured innocent people by increasing serfdom?
Catherine the Great: I increased serfdom to try to expand my empire. Your empire wasn’t increasing at all because you didn’t use serfdom in your economy.
Frederick II: And you also increased serfdom to try to please the nobility. I’d rather not use serfdom to help my economy because I want to treat …show more content…
people equally and not torture them like you do.
Catherine the Great: And now you are seeing the consequences of not using serfdom, your economy is failing. And serfdom is not torture; it is making lower class people useful.
Frederick II: First of all, my economy is doing just fine because I have alternatives instead of serfdom, and second of all serfdom is torture because you are using them as slaves.
Catherine the Great: You didn’t actually end serfdom because you wanted to strengthen your economy.
Frederick II: I never said that I completely stopped serfdom; I reduced it to a bare minimum.
Catherine the Great: That is not completely true because a while back we both agreed to strengthen serfdom to appease our noble classes.
Frederick II: That was back then and during a very hard time in my economy, so I needed a solution and serfdom was the only answer. Now I have other solutions and my economy is different now. And during that time I also helped them by creating new buildings and giving them required education. I also gave the poor serfs farming equipment. And I am still the brightly enlightened one because I have the best government.
Catherine the Great: You actually chose nobleman to work in government positions instead of being members of the middle class. And even though you made all religions live together in peace, Jews were still singled
out.
Frederick II: I still let Jews, Christians, Catholics, and Lutherans have peace. I also made fewer mistakes than you and my country is living in peace while there is violence all over your country. Face it; I am the most brightly enlightened. All of your effort is appreciated but, you fail to improve your country.
