beliefs. According to documents two and three as well as the America History of our Nation textbook, Jefferson eliminated Hamilton’s financial plan and fired all most every Federalist in office. Also he said that he was a Democratic-Republican and he raised taxes for the country, this is a Federalist belief. The factions, especially the Democratic-Republicans, benefited from President Thomas firing Federalists and helped them grow in power. But he’s contradicting that “belief” by raising the countries taxes for education. Towards the end of Jefferson’s term he was presented with a problem.
He wanted France’s territory that was in the west but they didn’t have the funding to do so. Regardless he was bestowed the offer of this land and he was willing to pay $10 million dollars. Napoleon refused the “low of payment” so he raised it to $15 million dollars. They took his offer and sent America into a downward spiral. Regarding document four, Jefferson stated that he bought present day Arkansas, Oklahoma, Missouri, Kansas, Nebraska, Iowa, most of Colorado, South Dakota, Montana, Wyoming, as well as big parts of Texas, North Dakota, Minnesota, and Louisiana. Generally people think more is better and the more land we have the more powerful we can be but Hamilton produced the truth about these lands. In document five, Hamilton exclaimed that those territories are completely unexplored and overflowing with Indian tribes. If we only have people occupying 1/16th of our current land then what are they going to do with the new
land? In George Washington’s farewell letter, he asked that we stay out of foreign affairs and stay out of wars with other countries. Then, Madison went and declared war on Britain. In document seven, it explains why Madison wanted to declare war; british violated American flags, seizing persons, spilled American blood, violated the rights and peace of their coasts. In the end, no side won the battle and they agreed to have everything go back to the way it was. This war was a total waste of resources, time and relations with other countries, it would have saved us a lot if we stayed out of it. While Presidents Jefferson and Madison where in term they did more destruction than construction by creating a new government plan, The Louisiana Purchase, and commencing a war with Britain (War of 1812). So basically, Jefferson is a democratic-republican with Federalist views, but he hates Federalists and likes to fire them from office. Then he bought a totally useless and dangerous piece of land that we can’t use. Then Madison goes out and picks a fight with Britain instead of being the bigger person and talk. We go to a counterproductive war that we get nothing but debt from. They might have helped with some little things but overall, we would have been better off without them.
