When Germany colonized Rwanda the Tutsi people were not happy. Tutsi in the past (before colonization) had people working for them. Now that they were colonized they no longer were the masters with workers doing all the labor for them. Once the Hutu no longer had to obey rules by the Tutsi, they were very frustrated for all the years of work they were forced to do. This lead up to Hutu people beating and killing their once Tutsi masters. The Hutu were very happy …show more content…
with Germany for colonizing the country and setting them free.
Rwanda’s economy is the 65th freest in the world rated in the 2015 index. Their country score is 64.8. It is also ranked 4th out of 46 in Sub Saharan African countries. Poverty has been reduced and the economy has improved due to the government’s effort to reform the economic system. However, governmental efforts have not fully restored Rwanda's economy because of civil war and political unrest.
Rwanda had many different elections deciding if their colony would become a country or not . First, in 1959 the first outbreak of violence was sparked off when a group of Tutsi political activists in Gitarama beat up a Hutu rival, Dominique Mbonyumutwa. The Hutu and Tutsi rivalry started when the two ethnic groups of workers and masters dissolved. After the two groups were split, Hutu were mad at the Tutsi because of the labor they had been forced to do. Then in 1960, before Rwanda was a country, Hutu politicians score an overwhelming victory in favor of Rwanda becoming a country. If Rwanda were to become a country, the Hutu would no longer be put to work! When elections were held in 1961, they brought a landslide victory for a joint Hutu and Tutsi party. It is led by the popular Prince Rwagasore, the eldest son of the Mwami. He is assassinated a few months later. Finally, the two parts of Ruanda-Urundi become independent in July 1962.
Multi-ethnic government no longer worked after Hutu politicians got full control of both the houses of parliament.
King Mwambutsa scrapped the legislature before it could come together. Once that happened, the army revolted. The army coup was then destroyed by Tutsi officers. King Mwambutsa IV ran away from the country and his son Ntare V gained all power over the country. He had risen to the top, he was the new king. Micombero, the President of Burundi then fired Ntare and ordered in counter attacks that resulted in many deaths. 5,000 Hutu died during that attack. After their counter attack Micombero set up the "Government of Public Safety" which of course helped their government be more safe. Micombero was then the head of the
country.
The two official languages of Rwandans are French and English. Kinyarwanda is the legal language spoken by Rwandans. Many people find three different languages hard to deal with. French, English, and Kinyarwanda are the most commonly spoken languages. Many people go to Rwanda who don't speak one of those three languages, which makes it difficult for many people.
Failures of Rwanda is the Rwandan civil war in the 1990’s. Tensions from the two ethnic groups, Tutsi and Hutu eventually broke out into war. In 1993, UN peacekeeping forces entered the nation, attempted to secure the capital and enable humanitarian aid. Newly independent Rwanda did not have much success because of all the killing and fighting people were doing. A few years later things started to look up for the Rwandans. Health care was improving, there was not as much fighting and because of this it was a better living environment for many people.
Rwanda has come a long way! Today, the health care is absolutely phenomenal. Many people live through diseases no one would have imagined living through a couple of decades ago. The economy has improved and the government is more orderly. Rwanda could provide a model for the rest of Africa, according to a new analysis by American health experts.
