Hagar was important as long as Sarah could get what she needed from her, which was a son. As soon as Sarah and Abraham had their son together she did not need Hagar around anymore. Jealousy caused Sarah to push Hagar and Abraham’s son Ishmael out in the wilderness. She refused to have Ishmael receive any inheritance from Abraham or take anything from her son Isaac.
Hagar was given some bread and water and was sent away with her son Ishmael. She roamed around in the wilderness until her food and water ran out. She placed her son under a bush because she could not watch him die. God heard the cry of the baby and told Hagar to lift him up her son and He would make a great nation for him. Hagar never imagine that she would be homeless and with nowhere to live and nothing to eat or drink, but what she was given. She and a son from a man that promised her everything, but turned his back on her and his child. She worked under pressure from Sarah to have a child only to have the child exiled.
When everything around you is being cut off, don’t lose your faith in God. People will praise you today and put you in exile tomorrow.
