In articles published by the United States Holocaust Museum the end of the Republic is the result of the rise of the Nazis. The Weimar Republic fell thanks to a string of events that resulted in Adolf Hitler’s establishment as Fuhrer. The beginning of the end of the Republic was upon the appointment of Adolf Hitler as chancellor on January 30, 1933. After a mysterious fire burned down the Reichstag, Germany’s Parliament building, on February 28, 1933, a state of emergency was declared which allowed official decrees to be enacted without confirmation from the parliament (2) which resulted in the Enabling Act. The Enabling Act gave Hitler the ability to enact laws and policies without consulting the Reichstag for four years (1). With his newly acquired power, Hitler begin to lay out the framework for his Reich. The first policy instated was the policy of ’coordination,’ requiring the alignment of the German culture, economy, education, and law with the goals of the Nazis. This policy was the first glimpse of what was to come under Nazi rule (2). Hitler wasted no time in increasing his power, upon the creation of the Gestapo in April of 1933 Hitler was able to take control of the local governments and use his private army to enforce the Nazi ideals. 1935 saw the rise of the German military and the establishment of the Luftwaffe by Goering. Hitler was preparing the Reich for a war only the Nazis knew was coming. As the year came to an end, Hitler made sure to inform his people of the meaning of being a German citizen through the introduction of the Nuremberg Laws, with one of the most important rule being that relationships between Jews and Aryans were forbidden (1). The Nuremberg Laws were the first hint of what was to come just a few years later in the form of the Holocaust. But it would not be until 1941 that Hitler would kick his genocide into full swing. One major aid in the Reich's rise to power was its use of propaganda. Propaganda played a huge role in Hitler’s Germany due to it’s use in maintaining and growing the support of the German people for the Nazis. In 1936 Hitler found a platform upon which to launch the biggest Nazi propaganda campaign, the 1936 Olympic games. Hitler used the 1936 Olympic game to showcase Germany and all of its glory to the world. At the games all the nations of the world were amazed by the clean city and happy people as the Nazis continuously promoted the new, strong, and united Nazi Germany.
