The attack on Pearl Harbour began on the morning of the 7th of December, 1941. It was set to be a surprise military attack by the Imperial Japanese Navy against the naval base of the United States of America in Hawaii’s Pearl Harbour. The attack ended with the United States joining World War II. A war between the United States of America and Japan had become a possibility since the 1920’s with both countries having a plan if one should happen. The possibility grew massively when Japan invaded Manchuria in 1931. An all-out war had begun between countries in 1937 when Japan continued to expand into China. The attack on Pearl Harbour was to initially commence thirty minutes after the Japanese had informed the United States of America that the peace negotiations had come to an end but the attack had begun before the notice could be delivered to the United States. The 5000-word or 14-part message was transmitted in two blocks to the Japanese Embassy stationed in Washington but to transcribe the message would take too long for the Japanese ambassador to transmit it in time. The 14-part message is sometimes referred as a Declaration of War. Even though it was seen by a few senior United States government and military officials and stated peace negotiations had ended, it did not declare a war or severe diplomatic relations.
The attack on Pearl Harbour had ended with many ships, aircrafts and submarines being lost. 2403 Americans had been killed during the attack with 1178 being injured while the Japan had suffered a much smaller loss with only 64 Japanese being killed in the attack. The Americans tried to salvage as much ships as they could and restored them by patching holes, clearing debris and pumping water out of the damaged
