The Jim Crow laws were all laws that forced segregation. It was everywhere at all times, schools, public transportation, drinking fountains and even bathrooms (“Salem Press”). Before the civil war there were no set rules on segregation because most black were slaves, so there weren’t many segregation laws, how ever all southern states made an informal rule that they couldn’t prohibit segregation (“Salem Press”). This was the very beginning of the Jim Crow laws, they were already called Jim Crow laws because the young actor Thomas Dartmouth “Daddy” Rice
