He was born on October 8, 1940, in Liverpool England. His mother bought him his first guitar when he was 15. When he turned sixteen, John formed a group called the Quarry Men. Several of their records had already hit number one in the U.S. in the weeks leading up to it. Their manager, Brian Epstein made the agreement with Ed Sullivan to be on the show. For their three appearances, the Beatles would receive 10000 dollars. They completely overshadowed the other acts on the show that night. To the delight of the fans in attendance, they performed two songs, “I Saw Her Standing There” and “I Want to Hold Your Hand”. They made another appearance on the show later that year. He and his wife were having a night on the town. They had dinner and decided to go back to their apartment to say goodnight to their son Sean. Mark Chapman was waiting for them when they got there. Lennon had signed an autograph for him earlier that day. The murderer claimed that he got inspiration from reading a book called “Catcher and the Rye”. Chapman shot John Lennon four time in the back on the steps of the building’s main entrance in front of his wife. Some people claim that John tried to climb the stairs, but nobody knows for sure. He was rushed to the Roosevelt Hospital. Unfortunately he died before they got there as a result of exsanguination. John Lennon had a huge impact on the music industry as well as the rest of the world. Lennon was a voice for people. He was very influential on the hippie revolution. Following the breakup of the Beatles, Lennon released 8 solo albums. They were filled with commentary on war, inequality, and his desire for unity for all mankind. Everybody mourned his loss. Even the other former Beatles members paid tribute to him. All he wanted to do after leaving the Beatles was to spread a positive message through his music.
