Through out Stalin's early years he was faced with some challenges life had brought to him along with the start of his career. Stalin was born as Josef Vissarionovich Djugashvili. He was born in Gori, Georgia on December 18, 1878 or December 6, 1878, according to the Old Style Julian calendar. In spite of the fact Stalin later changed his birth date to December 21, 1879.While Stalin was just a boy he had contracted smallpox. Which left permanent scars on his face causing him to be made fun of often in school. Additionally Stalin was raised in poverty. His mother was a laundress and father was a cobbler.
