Benito Mussolini was one of the most cruel and brutal dictators in Europe.
He is well known for creating the Fascist party in Italy. To begin, Mussolini was born on July 29, 1883 in Predappio, Romagna. After spending his childhood, he became a school teacher in 1901. Then in 1908, he became a newspaper writer in Austria and two years later, he joined the local socialist party and eventually became the secretary. However, in 1911, he was arrested for spending anti-patriot propaganda. After several years, he once again worked as the editor of socialist newspaper in MIlan. During that time, there was a rapid increase of Fascism in Italy after they had failed to win large territorial gains at the 1919 Paris Peace Conference. People in Italy were tired and worn out of rising inflation and unemployment; however, their democratic government seemed helpless to deal with the country’s problems. They were eagerly waiting for the strong and powerful leader who would take action. And of course, that was Benito Mussolini who grasped this perfect opportunity to rise to power. Unlike the rest of the leaders and representatives in Italy, Benito Mussolini was in full of confidence and promised to rescue Italy by reviving its economy and rebuilding its armed forces. He promised his people to give strong leadership and make stabled society, which that was not present under King Victor Emmanuel II’s regime. As the time progressed and the situation in Italy got worsened, he gained more and more
followers who desired for dramatic change. He began to publicly criticized Italy’s government and ensure people that there has to be a change. He began to win more support from the middle classes. And finally, in 1919, he founded the Fascist Party and grabbed the power in Italy. After Mussolini had put the crown on his head, he abolished democracy and outlawed all political parties except the Fascists. Despite the expectations from Mussolini’s followers, he started to abuse his authority and control almost every aspect of of people’s lives. And 1933, he started the Italian age of imperialism. When some time has passed under Mussolini’s reign, he began to follow the Nazi ideas, causing Jewish persecution in Italy. Later on, after he had already influenced by the Nazi ideas, he declared war on Russia and the U.S., even though, his armies were not prepared for this war. Then on July 25, 1943, he was arrested for losing much of the land and got executed by his people in April 1945.
