Russia is an ally of Serbia, so when Austria-Hungary declared war on Serbia, Russia did the same. Germany is an Ally of Austria-Hungary and declares war on Russia & France. Alliances made the war gain more participants which led to the title World War.
Nationalism is when you stand up for your country. Gavrilo Princip assassinated the prince of Austria-Hungary. He thought that killing the prince would be the first step to getting rid of the rule in the Balkans (to free Bosnia and Herzegovina of Austria-Hungarian) and uniting the South Slav peoples into a federal nation. He was arrested for his crime but was well-respected by his people.
