Christian Leadership Conference. SCLC was an organization that worked for civil rights. By 1960s, he was the leader of the whole civil right movement. He encouraged all the protesters to fight against inequality using nonviolence. Sit-ins, boycotts, marches became popular protest methods throughout the country. Martin Luther King Jr. led lunch counter sit-ins in restaurants where he and other blacks and whites demanded equal treatment in restaurants for people of all races.

Martin Luther King Jr.’s most famous speech, “I Have a Dream” in front of the Lincoln Memorial is a very important event in the American history. The speech made Americans sentimental and sympathetic towards the discriminated people. The fight for equality gained public support and finally because of Martin Luther King Jr. and numerous other Civil Rights activists, it is no longer legal in the United States to segregate or discriminate based on skin color. Today’s America is not totally racism free. Martin Luther King Jr.’s dream has not been completely materialized. However, we have come a long way from the segregation era. The Constitution of America and the most Americans does not believe in white supremacy or any kind of discrimination based on race. The fact that Americans of all races have equal rights and live harmoniously was not true even fifty years ago. Martin Luther King Jr.’s impact on every American’s life is immense.
