We need to make the older generation, who lived during a time that it was still a common belief in society that blacks were inferior, that society continues to change, and thinking that there are inferior races is no longer accepted in society, because is wrong. While not as extreme, african americans today are still receiving similar treatments of segregation. In Ferguson, MO, a young, unarmed, african american boy was shot and killed by a white police officer. The officer had no probable cause for shooting him, and he wasn’t convicted for it. This incident upset thousands, proving to America that blacks still aren’t equal. The shooting represents the social injustice that african americans face every day, the struggle that they have to go through because as a society, we can’t accept the fact that the modern day world is extremely different than it was during Martin Luther King Jr’s time. The teaching of such an important person in our history is used as a mask, to make it seem like our society has gotten past the racial segregation, but when the mask is removed, it reveals the true nature of our society, and the social injustice that African Americans face everyday. We need to show the citizens of America what is really happening behind the mask, lift up the veil that has been shielding us from reality. Once people see what is actually happening, we can finally start to push past the idea of there being a superior race, and make Martin Luther King Jr’s dream a reality at
