It is important to reach out and help them to adjust.” Mary Jackson did everything she said in this quote about it being a culture shock because she was the first black women to achieve many things while working with the NACA which is now called NASA. Mary Jackson helped others not just herself in advancing their careers until she retired. She also brought women’s accomplishments to the attention of the upper management. She later became a activist in women’s right’s when she did this she became a role model and that empowered other women.
During this time there was also a lot of racial bias but yet again Mary Jackson overcame it by challenging the discrimination in the workplace. Also during this time the Virginia state law enforced segregation in the workplace. This caused the facilities to be designated for white and black. Mary Jackson was treated less than equal to her white colleagues. So she decided to take a stand.
The space program was Mary’s biggest accomplishment because she did what no women dared to do she challenged the laws of math in order to get people in space and in the 1950’s she was the only black female aeronautical engineer.
