In short term, this was an organization founded by Teresa and others from St. Mary's. “The Missionaries of Charity, which she founded in 1950, operated soup kitchens, emergency shelters, after-school programs, nursing homes and other ministries across the country” (History.com), which goes to show the effort they put into the organization. They said, “By the time of her death in 1997, the Missionaries of Charity numbered more than 4,000—in addition to thousands more lay volunteers—with 610 foundations in 123 countries around the world” (Mother Teresa Biography, biography.com). Around 1950, Teresa opened up an open-air school for homeless children, and opened up a home for the dying in a shabby building that the government eventually gave her for her cause. 32 years later, in 1982, she opened up a home for those infected with the disease HIV, and similar to it, AIDS
She created the Order of the Missionaries Charity, dedicated herself to the poor, and inspired others. That's how Mother Teresa helped those in poverty. Her legacy was to inspire people and let others follow her path in helping those who are poor. If Mother Teresa never did what she had, it wouldn't have been disastrous. She did help thousands, and inspired many, but I'm faithful that even if she hadn't done what she had, someone else would have taken her
