Napoléon was able to overcome this by being able to get rid or had them join which would make them support his view. The church and church supporters and a great example of this because Napoléon picked the bishops of the churches to ensure that he had support of the church and that they were loyal to him rather than having them oppose him and take control over France like the church had done centuries ago. The Directory was unable to dampen the opposition against them which made their rule challenged at every moment. Napoléon on the other hand when challenged by a different counties forces throughout the war and even in France made sure that he showed his superiority over his opposition. When he did this in the war it showed his power and limited his opposition within France at the same time. Napoléon unlike the Directory had the ability to show that he was the best thing for France and strength it while also uniting the people over one solidified
